How to Get All Endings (& Thank You for Playing!)
Thank you to everyone who has already checked out our new game, "Painted Memory": a short gothic visual novel where you - a painter - unravel the mystery of an unknown woman who has appeared in your latest masterpiece.
Excitingly, it is also the first game I've made in Godot! One step at a time in this game dev journey ... I hope you'll stick around to see where we go from here.
If you enjoyed the game's piano background music, you can download it for free here at my music assets page, Fablefly Music. You are even welcome to use it in your own projects.
Now for the real reason for this devlog - a guide on how to unlock ALL 6 ENDINGS of "Painted Memory"! (Plus the variations on 3 of those endings! So that's technically ... 9 endings?)
If you want to try finding all the endings by yourself first, spoiler-free, turn back now!
Otherwise, read on ...
You may have already noticed that after finding the first hidden object, you are presented with 3 options. The option you choose here will lock you into a "route", in which 2 different endings are possible.
For the rest of the game, you are only allowed to choose from 2 options at a time. Each choice puts you one step closer to one ending or the other.
In a playthrough, you will make a total of 3 choices which will affect the ending you get. If you make 2+ choices towards one ending, that is the ending you will achieve.
Here's a colour-coded flow chart showing which choices lead to which endings (green choices count towards green ending, pink choices count towards pink ending, and so on):
Something that is easy to miss is that "Painted Memory" is a sneaky "spot-the-difference" game:
Did you notice that the menu background is the painter's "original painting", without the addition of Imogene and the 3 clickable items?
I'm interested to know if anyone spotted this - if you did, let me know!
Until next time,
