Game Jam Theme: "Evil is good - Sometimes it's fun to be the bad guy..."



Who was Baba Yaga before she became the feared old witch of folklore ...?

In this turn-based game of strategic combat and sinister magic, 

you play as a young Baba Yaga in her re-imagined origin story, 

firing dark spells at the kingdom's loyalists who've come to hunt her down.

Decimate all 10 waves without mercy, and uncover the root of her loathing.




KNOWN ISSUES & MISSING FEATURES:

Due to the inevitable overscoping that so often happens in game jams, there are some features and fixes we couldn't implement in time, including:

  • A fix for the game crashing upon restarting after a Game Over (you might just have to reload the page if this happens - sorry!)
  • Fixes for unintended behaviour of Spells 
  • Spell Upgrades and Perk Upgrades
  • More enemy types and enemy progression



There are 3 Spell Types, each fuelled by an emotion - Hatred, Sorrow, and Spite. Each Spell Type has their own Mana Pool.


Begin by choosing 3 starting Spells, a Mana Upgrade, and a Perk.

Once the wave begins, click to select a Spell and its target(s)

Casting Spells costs Mana, and you'll find the Mana Cost under each Spell icon. 

Your remaining Mana Pools are the coloured bars on the right-hand side of the Spells Panel. 

Your Mana Pools replenish at the beginning of each turn.



Hover over Spells and targets to bring up more details about them.


Status Conditions are indicated by icons under the sprites' feet. 


Once you are done casting Spells, press "END TURN" at the top of the screen. 


Your enemies will have their turn, then it will be your turn again. 


The top-right corner of the screen displays the number of Loyalists you still need to defeat before the current wave can end.

At the end of a wave, you will be able to select another Spell, Mana Upgrade, or Perk.


Defeat 10 waves of enemies to emerge victorious.

But if Baba Yaga's HP reaches zero, it's GAME OVER.

The theme song is based on a Polish lullaby, "Na Wojtusia z popielnika". Its lyrics served as inspiration for the game's narrative:

She had a hut made of butter,

And in the hut everything was so strange...
